Residential and Hospitality Design: Why Both?

No. 6

Both disciplines ask the same foundational question: How should a space make someone feel?

Everything we do flows from that.

People form a subconscious emotional judgment of a space within seven seconds of entering it. That reaction happens before thought. It is intuitive. This behavioral reality underpins design, whether the “guest” is staying one night or forever.

Narrative Before Function

In most industries, form follows function. In reality, form often folds to budget, meeting the minimum requirement as efficiently as possible. Luxury residential and hospitality design operate differently.

We begin with narrative. Only then do we resolve circulation, code, and maintainability. Function is elevated because it is aligned with meaning. A residence deserves the longevity and operational intelligence of a hotel. A hotel deserves the intimacy and emotional specificity of a home.

Craftsmanship Meets Durability

Both residential and hospitality projects demand a rare duality. A custom millwork detail must withstand daily use. A bespoke furniture piece must age with grace. An OSE moment must feel poetic yet survive contact with real life. We intentionally cross-contaminate our suppliers, increasing the value and quality delivered to both our residential and hotel clients.

The Personality of the Practice

This work does not scale easily, and we are comfortable with that. It requires principal-level involvement to hold the narrative intact as budgets shift and construction realities emerge.

By working across both practice areas, we stay creatively awake, technically sharp, and emotionally intuitive. Most importantly, we remain honest to the idea that elevated living is not a typology, but a mindset.
